The Life and Death of a British Officer
Captain Oswald Eric Wreford Brown
I began my teaching career in a secondary school in Kent, teaching history and RE.
The Modern Foreign Languages Department organised annual day visits to Ypres and that was my first entry into Great War studies.
I taught history and then technology at a secondary school in East Sussex.
I accompanied a Year 9 visit to the Somme. The tour guide was superb and an interest in the Western Front was born.
I was introduced to the resource used here by colleagues at Newhaven Fort, Newhaven, East Sussex. The Anglia-Campus archive is an example of an early attempt to convert this material into digital format for school use.
In 2014 I completed an MLitt in Scottish History at Dundee University.
The focus for the research element of that was a study of the ways in which the Scottish press reported conditions on the Western Front. A copy of the dissertation can be downloaded HERE (.pdf format).
